Your beliefs become your constant thoughts. Your thoughts become your words. Your words become your actions. Your actions become your habits. Your habits become your character. And ultimately, your character shapes your destiny. The course of your entire life can be either built or broken by a single thought. Everything starts in the mind. This is why in 2 Corinthians 5:7 we are told that as believers we are supposed to walk by faith, not by sight. This is because true faith doesn't depend on what we see and think with our natural mind, but it depends on what is known by our spirit. What you see with your eyes and think with your mind can hinder your faith if you don't catch it and correct it. Our minds are a battlefield with swirling thoughts, the thoughts that have the victory will affect how we speak, act, treat people, and live every aspect of our lives.
"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." Romans 12:2 ESV
Renewing your minds comes through understanding the Word of God and by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. If your mind is conformed to the ways of the world, your perspective in everything in life will be earthly. An earthy perspective does not understand the things of God and is not in alignment with the supernatural faith we are supposed to carry as believers. James 1:8 actually tells us that a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. This means that if we are focusing on both the world and the Word we will end up unproductive and our faith will remain shakable and unsteady.
"And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." Philippians 4:8 NLT
How we perceive things of a spiritual nature will greatly depend on the thoughts we constantly entertain in our mind. If we have a mindset of flesh, we will always see in the flesh. This is why the Apostle Paul is telling the Philippians in the scripture above that they should intentionally fix their thoughts on things that are good and of God. You will become what you behold. Your life will embody whatever thoughts are at the forefront of your mind. The power of a transformed mind can take you to impossible levels of faith and elevate your spiritual walk and personal character traits to a level you never thought possible. And whenever doubt, discouragement, or anything unholy plagues our mind, we are to capture those thoughts and lay them aside to elevate what the Word of God says.
